‘Crystal-Chemicals’ j.s.c. – Velingrad is one and the only of its character chemical factory in Bulgaria and on the Balkans. It is situated in the town of Velingrad, region of Pazadjik, at a distance of 130 km south-east from the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia, in the center of the richest region of pine plantations in Bulgaria. The factory is situated in the industrial zone of the town of Velingrad and is composed of 81 431 square meters.

The production structure of ‘Crystal-Chemicals’ j.s.c. is composed of 6 (six) main divisions and 14 (fourteen) plants, and 12 (twelve) subsidiary divisions.

TERPINEOL DIVISION
“GRILL AND GROSMANN’ RECTIFICATION COLUMN’ Plant
    It is designed for vacuum rectification of sulfate and gum turpentine into pure terpenes - alpha-pinene (left- and right- rotation), beta-pinene, camphene, delta-3-carene, limonene, terpinolene, pine turpentine and perfumery terpineol. Pure terpenes are used in perfumery and cosmetics industry.

‘CRUDE TERPINEOL’ Plant 
   This plant is applied for obtaining of crude terpineol. The crude terpineol is produced from sulfate and gum turpentine under classical technology - through hydration in an acid environment and following de-hydration of crystals in a light acid environment. The obtained crude terpineol is used in vacuum rectification column ‘Grill and Grosmann’ for production of perfumery terpineol.
 
‘CATALYSTS’ Plant.
    In this plant are produced different kinds of catalysts on the basis of PFSK (para-phenolsulfonic acid), FSK (phenol-sulfonic acid) and KSK (kxylene-sulfonic acid).
Catalysts are used to harden furan resins, which are used as binding material in production of cold hardening foundry forms and hearts.

DIVSION AND TALL OIL SICCATIVES

‘FURAN RESIN’ Plant
    Two types of resins are produced on the basis of poly condensation under atmospheric pressure and vacuum:  
  1.  Furan resins:  they are used as binding substances in the production of cold-hardening shaping molding admixtures in the production of steel and cast-iron
  2. Phenol-formaldehyde resins: these resins are used in the production of friction products, such as cover plates for car brakes and etc.
‘TALL OIL SICCATIVES’ Plant 
    In this plant are produced different kinds of siccatives, as: lead, manganese, cobalt. The same are used in paints and varnishes industry as a component in varnishes, paints and primers.

 
‘GUM RESIN’ Plant
    This plant processes liquid and dry gum (pine) resin through distillation with water steam until gum rosin and gum turpentine are obtained. The gum rosin and gum turpentine are applied in paints and varnishes, perfumery and cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry.     

  

DIVISION TALL AND PAPER SIZE

‘TALL OIL’ Plant
     Tall Oil Plant is a deep vacuum rectification plant, which automatically follows the technological process. It has been constructed by the Swedish company ‘Linderpatent’ to comply with the modern technological requirements and has been periodically reconstructed and modernized.   
The Tall Oil Plant is designed for processing of tall oil - a by-product in the production of sulfate cellulose from wood, as well as, of fatty acids from different kinds of vegetable oils – sunflower, rape, nut, soy-been, cotton and etc.
Through vacuum rectification of tall oil the following products can obtained: tall oil rosin, tall oil fatty acids, light oil and pech.
Through vacuum rectification of fatty acids from vegetable oils distilled fatty acids and pech are obtained.
Tall Oil Rosin and Tall and Vegetable Fatty Acids are used in paints and varnishes industry.

 
‘PAPER SIZE’ Plant
    Powdery and liquid paper size are produced at this plant. The main raw materials in use are tall oil or gum rosin and sodium hydroxide. The size is used in cellulose-paper industry for paper sizing.

  


PAPER DIVISION

PLANT FOR PRODUCTION OF CARDBOARD
    It is a machine, composed of a system of smooth and relief shafts, which are heated with a water steam with a purpose – gluing of two layers fluting with a liquid glass. In this plant is produced two-layers corrugated cardboard.

  
PLANT FOR PRODUCTION OF CARDBOARD BOXES
    The plant is a system of right-size machines, band-saw machines, rotation-rasps, wire-saw machines, pneumatic press and packing machine of the waste product.
In this plant are produced cardboard boxes of three- and five-layers corrugated cardboard.
  

DIVISION ALKYD AND SOLVENTS

‘ALKYD RESIN’ Plant
    In this plant are produced different kinds of modified alkyd, synthetic and polyester resins. The resins are the basis for production of alkyd paints, varnishes and primers.

 
‘SOLVENTS’ Plant    
    This plant is designed for obtaining of different of solvents, as:
    The same are used for dilution of alkyd, nitro-cellulose and other kinds of paints.

DIVISION ‘STORAGE’

Division ‘Storage’ is established on a territorial principle in accordance with the character of production.
It consists of warehouses for:
-liquid matters: per division and central for raw materials and final products with a total storage capacity of 20 000 tons
-dry matters: per division and central for raw materials and final products with a total storage capacity of 15 000 tons.
Accountancy and control are done in accordance with the internal regulations and the company operative organization, and it is completely computerized.


FIRE-PRECAUTIOUS SECURITY

Fire-precautious security of factory is accomplished by a selffire-precautious security. On the territory of the factory there are all necessary fire-precautious devices. The company is disposed of its own fire-precautious truck and specialized equipment.

Security of factory is accomplished by a licensed for this kind of operation company.


DIVISION INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL SERVICE

This division accomplishes the whole information and technical service of factory. It is completely computerized and uses a specialized software product.


DIVISION BUILDING AND INSTALLATION WORKS

This division accomplishes all building and repair works of the whole infrastructure of ‘Crystal-Chemicals’ j.s.c. and it consists of all necessary technical equipments and qualified personnel.

 
DIVISION WATER-FEEDING AND CLEANING EQUIPMENTS

Water-feeding is accomplished by two separate water sources for industrial water, each of them with a maximum capacity of 36 l./s and one water-source for nourishing water.
There are two kinds of cleaning equipment: overground and underground and they are in accordance with the updated ecological requirements which provide and maintain the normal operative regime of the factory.


DIVISION CONTROLLING AND MEASURING DEVICES AND AUTOMATION


This division accomplishes the maintenance and repair works of all controlling and measuring devices and automation equipments in all divisions on the territory of the factory. It operates with all necessary equipments and qualified personnel.


DIVISION EL. FEEDING AND MAINTENANCE

El. feeding of the factory is accomplished by a doubled system of main sub-stations, energy-ring, transport el. feeding and all necessary equipments.


DIVISION MECHANICAL REPAIRING WORKS

Division ‘Mechanical Repairing Works’ is completely equipped for accomplishing of all repair-works on the territory of the factory and it operates with all necessary equipments and qualified personnel.


DIVISION ‘TRANSPORT’

The factory has its own auto- and railway transport for transport of specialized loads of liquid and dry matters in Bulgaria and abroad. On the territory of the factory are built closed and open auto-parking and service. There is an own railway road, which is connected with the central railway ring.


DIVISION STEAM AND HEAT FEEDING

The steam and heat feeding of factory is accomplished by four separate sources in a doubled system. Maximum capacity is 20 tons steam per hour. At the flammable process it can be used for burning also waste products from the production process.


LABORATORIES

Laboratories accomplish the incoming and outgoing control of raw materials, materials and final products.
The factory is disposed of a central plant laboratory, physics and mechanical laboratory, gas-chromo-graphic laboratory, steam-station laboratory, sample warehouse.
 
The factory operates in a continuous regime of work and has a closed work cycle: raw materials – final products.

The infrastructure of the factory is well developed and operates in a doubled system: two separate entrances and exits; water-feeding from two separate water-sources; doubled el. feeding; storage equipments for liquid and dry matters per purpose; own auto- and railway-transport for transportation of specialized loads in Bulgaria and abroad; underground and overground cleaning equipments which are in accordance with the latest ecological requirements; own fire-precautious and security services; laboratories for physics and mechanical tests and gas-chromo-graphic research works.
