The
Fatty Acid Methyl Ester
(FAME)
was discovered at the end of XIX century and it is well known under the
trade name “biodiesel”.
The
concept of using vegetal oil as an engine fuel dates back to 1895 when
Rudolf Diesel developed the first engine to run on peanut oil, as he
demonstrated at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900
Bio-diesel has energy content comparable to ordinary diesel fuel, and can
be mixed with normal diesel fuel, usually up to a percentage of 5 %.
However, a mixture of 30 % bio-diesel is also used in European countries
as well. The application of bio-diesel does not require any adaptation of
the diesel engine. Quite to the contrary, the addition of bio-diesel is
highly appreciated because of its good lubrication of the motor (1%
biodiesel will increase lubricity by 65%).
A first
European guideline (2003/30/EC) lays down the objectives: by 2005, 2 % of
all fuel consumption in Europe has to be covered by bio-fuels. This
minimum percentage increases progressively in order to obtain a minimum
percentage of 5, 75 % in 2010. By 2020 the European Commission wants to
reach 20% substitution.
Our Company - “Crystal
Chemicals Trading” Ltd started production of biodiesel in its plant
“Crystal” in the city of Velingrad (Bulgaria) in early 2006. We are
officially licensed as per Bulgarian law and our production fully
corresponds to the European standard EN 14214. The present capacity of the
plant is 3 000 tons per month but can be easy substantially increased in
short time and low investments
